Where can you find me? The question that haunts and motivates me

Like so many musicians from around the world, I made the pilgrimage to Nashville to live for a bit and make some music. One evening we went to an academic evening function on the campus of Vanderbilt University. We were making small chat with a couple over some beverages. The conversation, as many Nashville conversations do, went to music. I mentioned that I was a singer-songwriter working on some music. The man politely asked me, ‘Where can I find you?” Whether the cat had my tongue, or I was deer in the headlights, whatever the metaphor, I had nothing.

I had things online, but nothing that was representative of what I was working on at the time. That moment was over three years ago, but it still motivates me always to have something to point to online, whether social media posts, a website or my music available on one of the digital platforms or streaming services.

Today, I finished getting my latest EP up on all the streaming services and digital distribution sites. It was a ton of work, very comparable to what someone does in a music marketing role. That’s exactly what it is. I Am marketing my own music. I sometimes think that after I reach a point in my performance career, I will want to move to music management and marketing. The work that has been put into marketing the Dustin Carlyle debut EP has been a real glimpse into the future and what that may look like, with me working with other artists.

Michelle Branch singing

My new EP has been released! It is available wherever you listen to or buy your music. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed writing and making it. I am excited for the live performances that are to come. I won’t have to wait long, as I am making my busking debut at the Tamworth Country Music Festival this week on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. And when I am Tamworth, if someone asks me where they can find Dustin Carlyle online, I will politely reply; then, I will expect their response to be identical to the lyric of a Michelle Branch song, “You’re everywhere!”

P.S. Michelle Branch is amazing! I love her solo work and her music with The Wreckers. I hope to share a stage with her at some point, but more on dream collaborations another time. Now stop reading this blog post and check out the Dustin Carlyle EP. The first single is Sugar Honey Pie. Guess where you can find it?
