A Perfect Live Vocal Performance? Does it really exist?

I have watched some of the Grammy performances from the show this week. Again, what a thrill it would be to be able to attend as a nominee. I woke up today and thought, ‘Did I really write that I could make it to the Grammys sometime in the next ten years, in some capacity?’ Guess the self-belief struggle is real.

But while watching the performances from the Grammys, something happened that helped my self-belief to be encouraged. While watching some of the live performances from some of the greatest entertainers in the business, I noticed something. If it was truly live, it was hard to say a vocal performance was perfect. Even the best may have a high note or run where they don’t quite hit all the notes. Of course, with studio magic, such things can be corrected easily or just punch in to re-record when needed. But in a live show, it is out there for the world to hear, in real time.

If this is the case, then maybe there is hope for us performers who don’t hit the note EVERY single time. I guess that just means we are all human. However, you have to bring a lot more to the stage than just a voice that can sing in key. How my show and performances evolve is exciting to me. I do realise that the only way to truly tell what works is to put it out there. Let's Go! Congratulations to all the nominees and winners of the 2024 Grammys!
