I haven’t grown up in the Hollywood circles or the entertainment business. I have picked up some words of wisdom along the way, and many of those I will share in these blogs. Most of the time it is through interviews of accomplished performers that take place on television or radio. You would be surprised to find some amazing interviews of famous performers that you have never seen or heard that can be watched on YouTube. One such interview I will never forget was an interview with the legendary Tina Turner who recently passed in 2023. She had an amazing career, first with her husband Ike Turner, and then as a solo artist. She sold millions of records, and her live performances and video and movie performances, for that matter, are epic. You would think someone with such success throughout her career would not feel the need to try hard when putting on a show. That was NOT Tina. In an interview, Tina would say, and I paraphrase, I don’t care if there are 50 people or 5,000 people watching her show. Each one of them gave their time and money to be at her show, and she was going to give it her best to put on the best show they had ever seen. That commitment to performance excellence and working at her craft of performance is something I will always remember. With such an outlook on performing, it is no wonder she was such a legend.
Today, I worked on things that will continue to improve my performance. I continued to hone my setlist, thinking about tempo, lyrics the different keys and how to start and finish a set. I know the setlist may change over time, but I want to deliver a legendary performance every time I am fortunate enough to have people watch and listen to me. I rehearsed and will keep rehearsing the songs. I worked on my fitness. I want to give simply my best at every performance I ever give. And when I do, I will remember Tina. I love this photo. It shows her so happy performing, doing what she loved and bringing joy to the lives of so many.
