It is school holidays now in Australia, and there are many families taking part in holiday travel. Living on Australia's Gold Coast, with its amazing beaches, amusement parks, hinterland and other attractions, we often have visitors. This week, we have 10 relatives in town. Some have previously seen and heard my music performances. Playing my soon-to-be-released Dustin Carlyle EP with the album cover was gratifying. They were kind enough to listen, compliment the music and ask questions about when I will be playing live and how I will be promoting the EP. As I spoke about it, it was as if I was making verbal commitments to them. This is similar to when I would tell my colleagues at my day job about my upcoming EP. I wasn’t only committing to them, but I was committing to myself. I had to deliver the EP because I told so many people about it. It won’t be long until family, friends and colleagues will be able to hear my new music.
Similarly, many people suggest you set both year goals and career goals, so you may commit to pursuing them in your activities. I want to share my goals for the year to commit to you and me what I want to achieve this year. Of course, I know they need to be SMART, as in Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. It will be fun to keep score on New Year’s Eve at the end of this year…when I am playing a gig (See Goal 10). I will share my career goals in a later post.

5. Play at Groundwater Country Music Festival on the Gold Coast
6. Play at Sunset Bash Country Music Festival in Sydney
7. Busk at least 10 times on the Gold Coast
8. Have over 1,000 followers on Instagram, TikTok and Facebook for Dustin Carlyle Music and post on social media at least once a week.
9. Produce a music video for Sugar Honey Pie
10. Perform at a New Year’s Eve Show somewhere in Australia
Now you all know my goals for the year. I better get going, because I know you will be asking how I am going with them! I look forward to writing about how I am progressing with these 2024 goals and definitely vlogging whenever I achieve any of these.
