I am now just 13 days away from my busking debut at the Tamworth Country Music Festival (TCMF). I have not had much time to rehearse with the holidays, building a website, updating social media channels, and this blog. In addition to about 20 original songs, I am looking into adding some cover songs to the setlist. Lots to do! And did I mention just 13 days to get it tight and get it right?
I probably would have started my music career earlier, but I was too busy competing in sports. Through the 10th grade, I played gridiron football, basketball, and baseball. From year 11, I focused on basketball and gridiron football. I also played one season of college basketball, before spending the rest of my uni days in study and other activities.
While not participating in competitive sports now, you think back to all the hours in training and preparation for the next game. Growing up in Miami Beach, Fla., I was fortunate to have a Florida High School Hall of Fame coach in Jim Kroll. I also had some outstanding basketball and baseball coaches and our teams competed at the highest level of high school sport in Dade County. Through all the training from these outstanding coaches and teachers, I learned so much that has impacted my success as a professional. Now, I am ready to apply these lessons to my life as a music artist. Some aspects of training that will definitely carry over to my music preparation will be keeping to a schedule, having a practice plan, proper drills, tireless work ethic, being on time and even some two-a-days.
Even after my playing days, I was able to do some basketball coaching at the university level. The lessons taught by Coach Kroll and his amazing staff of coaches and my coaches in other sports are the lessons I taught as a coach. Now, I need to coach myself to achieve my highest performance level. I am so grateful to have those experiences of training and preparation. Now it is time to get to work on my preparation. And on January 26, I will be ready to EXECUTE!
