I feel like I am starting every blog with a mention of the Tamworth Country Music Festival (TCMF). That’s probably because I am. In addition to being one of the biggest music festivals in Australia, I will also be holding a spot and performing for 1 hour and 45 minutes. I have held 3-hour spots before, but that was always with an accompanist, guitar or piano. This time, it will be just me.
As a singer-songwriter, I want to showcase my original songs. Not many people have heard them and I want to find out what they think. I also have my four-song EP coming out at the same time. I definitely want to hear what people think of those songs.
But I need to add some cover songs to my setlist to fill nearly two hours. In the past, I struggled with the idea of performing covers. I thought that wasn’t what an original singer-songwriter artist would do. But I have also listened to many great artists from the past. The Beatles and Elvis performed cover songs, especially at the beginning of their careers. So many artists on social media perform covers to showcase their ability as performers. Even all the talent shows, like Idol, have their contestants sing cover songs.
I have worked to find a group of cover songs to add to my originals. These songs needed to work with my style as an artist and ones I could sing and play on the guitar. I look forward to sharing them with you soon!
